Aged 29

2 Base Ordnance Workshop, Royal Army Ordnance Corps
Died on Monday, 19th February 1940

Born in 1910 (Mildenhall Q2-1910 4A:960), son of Walter William and Rosetta Mabel SHELDRICK (née FLATT).
In 1935 he married Nellie NICHOLLS, later of Elveden. They had a son, born in 1939. Probate gives his address as Mill Street, Mildenhall.

1911 census...Aged 1, he was in Mildenhall with his father Walter W SHELDRICK [43] harness maker born Cambs; his mother Rosetta M [38] born Cambs; brothers Frederick W [16] apprentice outfitter and Elliott J [14] both born in Suffolk; sister Ida Emily [8] born Suffolk; grandmother Ann SHELDRICK [75] and cousin Girty F Sheldrick [23]. There had been one other sibling who had died.

For the 1939 register his wife Nellie [4-3-1907] was at The Garage/Lock up shop, Mill Street, while his parents were at Police Station Square, father [2-4-1869] farmer, mother Rosetta M [11-8-1871].

His widow married Leonard C HOBDEN in 1942 and moved to Elveden.

Being in a unit such as the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, unless the family tell us, there is little chance of establishing where exactly they were when Dick died. Seemingly it was in the St Nazaire area.
